According to Forbes, the cities that they have their eyes on are no longer the big old names like New York, Tokyo and London. Instead they recognize emerging powerhouses that are set for rapid growth are the movers and shakers to watch and will become increasingly important to the global market.

According to Forbes rankings for the ‘World’s Fastest Growing Cities’, some of the main factors taken into consideration when publishing their latest list and for those areas that they forecast will continue to see the best growth for the next decade include population growth and quality of living. Couples and families are heading out of the old powerhouses, seeking new homes in more livable cities with International businesses following suit due to the new freedoms the globalization is providing. At the same time low birth rates and population growth are set to stall many old economies as in Europe, while these new emerging powerhouses will be set to ramp up production.

So where are these new emerging power houses that promise better living and are perfectly positioned for profitable commercial real estate investment? Canada boasts 3 of the top 5 ‘Most Livable Cities In The World’ according to the Economist Intelligence Unit report released last month. Vancouver still holds 1st place as it has done for the last several years, while Calgary claimed the number 5 spot. However it is Calgary that really stood out for Forbes and claimed 4th in their list of ‘World’s Fastest Growing Cities’ for North America.

Compounded with the recent acclaim as Canada’s Best Place To Live & Work, named No.1 World Capital of the Future by Money Sense, and heralded as Canada’s Most Wired City, Calgary really stands above the rest as the place to invest for 2011 and beyond.

Calgary is currently caught in a positive upward spiral with new retailers adding new jobs, which is drawing more Canadians to relocate here, which in turn is fueling further retail growth. Though of course the city is supported by a well rounded commercial sector from offices to industrial which promises to keep the growth sustainable and sensible.
